Circo Pitanga presents

Nuptial Ropes: A High-Flying Circus Performance

Thursday 18th May

Nuptial Ropes is a modern circus performance, combining physical theatre, high level acrobatics, mime and clown. As a naive couple prepare for their wedding, a series of buffoonish events threaten to ruin the day! Only her mischievousness and his strength bring them to a … happy end?

The story of Circo Pitanga is, like every story, a unique story. But perhaps what characterises it the most is its multicultural background and various influences that give it both a diversified yet universal composition.

Loïse Haenni and Oren Schreiber, both co-founders of the company, met at the National Circus School in Rio de Janeiro in 2008. Shortly afterwards, they started training together and decided to create a first show; Rêves d’été (Summer Dreams). After presenting it over three years in Europe, they create two new performances: CIRCUS and Nuptial Ropes.

Passionate about acrobatic duos, Loïse and Oren worked on a specific technique of portées on a single attachment point. They studied with different teachers, from Rio de Janeiro to Brussels, passing by Buenos Aires, Barcelona, Turin, Lomme and Moscow. The influences of different cultural experiences, backgrounds and techniques are reflected in the original style of the performances, but especially in the capacity of the artists to recreate universal emotions through body language in a subtle, poetic and always accessible and entertaining way.
