Gilbert and Sullivan’s HMS Pinafore

Sunday 7th September 4:00pm

Welcome aboard the flagship of Her Majesty’s Royal Navy, the perfect place to mock such stalwart institutions as Government, Patriotism and the Great British Class System! No wonder Queen Victoria said of Gilbert and Sullivan’s HMS Pinafore in 1878: “We are not amused!”

Josephine, the Captain’s daughter, is in love with Ralph, a common sailor. But her social-climbing father insists she must marry Sir Joseph Porter, First Lord of the Admiralty. The Captain catches the young lovers as they elope from the ship and locks Ralph in the vessel’s dungeon.

A cast of 6 outstanding performers showcase this timeless comic opera – full to the gunwales with sharp dialogue and catchy tunes – on a spectacular nautical set and using Sullivan’s full score.
