BlackBox Theatre Company presents

Blithe Spirit

Wednesday 2nd June

Following 2019’s highly acclaimed tour of The 39 Steps – A Radio Drama, BlackBox Theatre Company return to the stage with an outdoor production of Noel Coward’s timeless classic, Blithe Spirit.

Charles Condomine, a successful novelist, has had two wives – one is most certainly living and the other is most certainly dead!  However, after a rather eventful séance held by the eccentric Madame Arcati, the ghost of his temperamental first wife has come to visit, much to the consternation of the current Mrs Condomine.  Two wives, ‘living’ under the same roof?  What could possibly go wrong?

The play was first produced at The Manchester Opera House in 1941 and over the years Coward’s masterpiece has become a firm favourite with theatre audiences around the world.  It has been made into two films, the first starring Rex Harrison and the formidable Margaret Rutherford and most recently a Hollywood retelling starring Judi Dench as Madame Arcati.

Formed in 2016, BlackBox Theatre is fast gaining the reputation of becoming one of the South Coast’s leading professional touring companies – producing new work alongside the modern classics.
